Day 6
Today we had a lie in - bliss
No plans for today so we were just going to mooch about
Breakfast was busier than usual as we were later but we also noticed that there were a few dressed in running gear
This reason for this became apparent as we hit town - there was a 10km run in the city centre
We were gutted - if we’d known we’d have brought our running shoes 👀
We went back to the mall we went in first as it was a Sunday and it was the only place we could guarantee would be open
In one shop the security guard (from Venezuela) sauntered up to us and asked in perfect English whether we were from England
When we confirmed we were he said, whatever you do, don’t go to the train station as gangs rule there and we would be targeted as foreigners
Also watch ourselves on the escalators as a lot of women pickpockets operate in the mall
We’d already been told not to trust a taxi so our safe range of travel was disappearing by the hour!!
Still, we managed to find a shop we know Hattie would love
Wait, it gets better
We bought a few things here and a couple of other things and then went for food
We decided on a pasta meal and saw that one item offered 3 different pastas in smaller portions so that you could try a few things
Obviously that’s what we went for and it was delicious
We did have a few problems with the card machine afterwards and there still might be a danger I have paid more than once but so far I can only see 1 payment so all is good
We then had a walk around to find more shops but the Sunday rules seemed to beat us
So instead of shopping and walking we went to a place called Schopdog - a food and drink place
We asked if we could just drink and he was fine with that
So we ordered this
Yes a 2 pint glass of beer each for £16 - what a bargain
It was a tad tricky to drink though but we aren’t quitters
Then we went back to the room for a Siesta before going out for dinner
So we’d decided to go back to the place that let us have 2 beers yesterday without food, to reward them for their kindness
Unfortunately they were closed on a Sunday so we went to Krossbar Oreggo and just like all the other restaurants we viewed our menus via QR code
Luckily today the waitress had excellent English so we were able to order the weakest beer they had (pils at 5.1% - they had beers > 10%) and Joss had fish and chips and I had THE RUBÉN
A Smoked brisket sandwich, spicy coleslaw, gouda cheese, house mayonnaise, special sauce on toasted ciabatta bread.
Basically a lovely sandwich with fries - Chile is hooked on sandwiches - they are on every menu!!
It was delicious though but we both struggled to finish
We decided to have 1 more beer just before the waitress told us it was last orders - that was lucky
We then meandered our way home for the night
