Day 2
Today started with, I’m ashamed to admit, a slightly fuzzy head
The beer last night was a tad stronger than I had thought
Groggily I got myself together and we went down for a buffet breakfast
Normally I’d hit it hard but as I was a bit delicate I refrained from my Toby Carvery method of building a restraining wall of food then filling the plate to the brim
It was lovely, though, apart from the tea that I could have stood my spoon up in…
Back to the room by 9:30 and as we didn’t have to leave until 12:00 we had time for showers and multiple cups of tea - I can’t think of another trip where we’ve been so chilled
Our “agent” in Santiago (sounds like 007) confirmed someone would be waiting for us with a sign of our names to take us to the hotel and that everywhere would take credit/debit cards so we were all set to go
The walk to terminal 4 was no more than 10 minutes through a covered walkway - result
It was about 12:00 now so when we were told we couldn’t drop our bags off until 14:35, we were a little “disappointed”
Still like brave soldiers we found a cafe to sit it out with a couple of soft drinks, then a beer for good luck
Finally it was time to check in and the guy wanted to know if we wanted to pick our bags up in Paris? Why would anyone want to do that? No thank you, send them all the way to Santiago please
We were allowed to go fast track through security and as the name suggests, it took no time at all - we followed a woman dressed in pink and black spangles - she was definitely there to enjoy herself (sorry no pictures)
We then found the lounge where the receptionist looked at us like we were definitely in the wrong place - but we weren’t - suck on that!!!
Joss went to get some food and wasn’t inspired so came back with a sandwich
I went up and had Spanish chicken and rice and Joss had to admit mine looked nice so she went back up and got, you guessed it, shepherd’s pie with rice
Nope - no idea either but wouldn’t it be dull if we were all the same
We still had 90 minutes to kill - what to do ….
Well, we both started with red wine - coincidentally enough the name of the Chilean wine was the same name as the hotel we were going to????
Joss took ages so I decided on a vodka and coke - I poured myself a large one only to realise that the coke was at the other end of the lounge so I looked like an alcoholic carrying it round
Still, wouldn’t be the first time…..
Then we got the notification that the plane was ready at gate 15 and we were off
As we were business but there were no business seats, I had the window seat, Joss had the aisle and the middle seat was left empty - before you say anything, Joss asked for it to be that way!!
Well, she did originally then decided to sit next to me - I soon put a stop to that - how would everyone else know we were business class if she did that???
We were then handed a refreshing wet towel - I suggested to Joss we wipe a twix across it and hand it back saying it was the freshest I’ve felt - but Joss didn’t want to do that
I can’t believe the the first time I get a window seat and it’s pitch black!!!
We noticed beforehand that we were due a meal but the flight only lasted 40 minutes so we thought that won’t happen
Wrong
As soon as we wet up they sprinted down the plane - this is what I got
Even when I ate it I had no idea what it was - turns out it was a lentil, fig , chestnut and kumquat salad with butternut squash and orange cream + cheese and a roll and a lemon tartlet
I couldn’t have guessed the first thing in a million years
I also asked for a vodka and coke and the glass it came in meant that the vodka almost filled it - I tempered it with as much coke as I could fit in then they started to ask for everything back so I had to neck it
It felt like I was on a stag do!!!!
I did try to take some pics but it was really difficult but hopefully you can see my muse
We arrived 10 minutes ahead of schedule and within 15 minutes we’d gone through security and were sitting in the next lounge waiting for the second plane - I’ll end the blog here for the day even through there are a few hours left
