Day 11
After tuning the lights out gone 1:30 this morning, the construction workers next door didn’t actually start hammering away until 9am which was a lie in but I was hoping for longer
We got ready and went down for breakfast and we were the only ones there - I guess all the other guests are early birds but as we had no trips planned we could afford the lie in
Once finished, we looked at the map and worked out that today we could be culture vultures and we found a couple of museums to visit
The first was the Evita Museum which was a 30 minute walk away but with Palermo being so tree lined it was a gorgeous walk
We even had the chance to go through a park
In the middle of the park was a giant climbing frame with slides that came off it like a huge octopus - I really wanted to have a go
I was going to take a picture before realising that there were kids playing on it and the sight of a bearded old man taking pictures of kids probably raises the same concerns as back home…
The museum came with an audio guide - Eva died very young but what a fascinating life she lived
Then we were off to the Arts’ museum but we managed to quench our thirst on the way - it was very hot after all
This was a much more grown up museum, so I’m not sure why they let us in..
Here’s some thoughts
1: This person needs to learn how to apply blusher
2: I can only imagine the painter was hung after this effort
3: Who knew the KKK were so photogenic
4: This installation really did intrigue me - what was the artist trying to say?
Then we went into the abstract section
5: I think we can all agree this artist earned every penny
6: Although this one may have outdone him
7: I’m not sure that this happened in this way but hey it’s a made up book so why not
Joss almost used this stairlift …
Then we made the loooong walk home and just managed to find a bit of cake to keep us going before the night’s meal
Waiting for us in the room was a half bottle of red to say sorry for the construction work - well, if you insist…
We went back to the place where we’d had the best steaks ever
I had a choice - same again or something new
I’d have hated for it to be not as good as last time so picked another cut
I also wanted chips
I said the accompaniment in Spanish first, then repeated their own English translation of fries/chips
The only word the waiter heard was chips, so guess what I got
Yep - basically a meal fit for Kieren - meat and crisps
Luckily the crisps were very nice and Joss was kind enough to share some potatoes
The steak was lovely but much more dense than the last one but I think Argentina has finally broken me - I just couldn’t finish and Joss was in the same boat
How anyone has a starter or pudding is beyond me
That was the night for me - my mind wanted to go find a bar, my body said go home you silly old man and for once, I made the sensible choice although tomorrow is another day and the chances of being sensible twice are very, very slim
