Day 9
Even though the journey was nothing compared to the last one we were both so tired we slept like logs and the 8am alarm really did alarm us
We went down to breakfast - a very similar set up to Chile except they made the teas/coffees for you and you could also ask for omelettes
We did exactly that to accompany the chewyist cereal we’d ever eaten - the omelette was excellent
Today was a mooch about day and it was hot
The streets here though are all tree lined to provide shade and there were shops aplenty
The only sad part was that Argentina we clearly not averse to fat-shaming women
Don’t look at the diggers!!!!
One big difference here in Argentina is how people deal with zebra crossings - they are truly a “fortune favours the brave” activity because if the drivers pick up a scent that you’re not confident in what you’re doing, they’ll drive right though whether you’re on it or not
The brave man gets across the road, the timid man dies of old age on the pavement
We quickly came upon a souvenir shop which Joss went through like a Tasmanian devil - I’m sure they’ll be putting their kids through university on that visit
We didn’t, however, want to carry it all around all day so went back to the hotel to leave it all there and we set off again
We were aiming first for sports shops and then to where the receptionist said was a shopping mall
It wasn’t actually a mall but a retail outlet area that had loads of stores with most offering discounts
Although we were keen to see what discounts, we were more keen on having a drink in the shade after the morning’s walking
We then looked round the place and made a few purchases
We had one more store to do and once complete we decided we deserved another beer - so we did
After that it was back to the hotel to rest up before the evening
The only disturbance to that, as we sat in our t-shirts and pants eating some snacks, was a knock at the door
Joss ran into the loo and I hastily put my trousers back on to greet the maid who handed over 2 small chocolates and a card saying what the weather was going to be like tomorrow
Joss hasn’t moved that fast in years …
We’d booked a table for 8pm and as we arrived we were greeted with a glass of sparkling white wine - lovely
Then we were led past the diners outside on the beautifully laid out tables
Then we went past the not so good looking tables
Then we went through the restaurant into a gorgeous courtyard and from there, into what I can only describe as a glass cube within the courtyard
It was bizarre
Several others were shown tables in with us but after the briefest of looks they all asked to be sat OUTSIDE the cube
Presumably they didn’t want to sort out 100 balls into 50 red and 50 blue in under a minute to get through to the pudding round….
Joss went for grilled chicken and chips and we were slightly perturbed when he asked how she’d like it cooked - well done was the only appropriate answer
I went for the tenderloin ravioli in a spinach cream source and it was delicious
For pudding Joss had the tiramisu and I had apple pancake with ice cream
The food was lovely but being in the goldfish bowl, separated from the others did rather taint the experience
To console ourselves we found a bar showing the Boca Juniors game and stayed for 1 Mexican beer
Sensible choices were being made as the alarm will be set for 6:30 tomorrow 😳
