Day 10

Today I told Joss that we were getting picked up between 8 and 8:30 so we were promptly at breakfast at 7:30

It was only over breakfast I said it was actually 8:30 til 9 but knew that she needed an extra bit of motivation 🤣

We talked briefly with a Dutch couple before Caroline came and picked us up for the tour of Buenos Aires

We has a few others to pick up and at the end there were 4 Americans, 4 Brits and 1 Australian lady

First we went to the main square where all the parliament buldings were

Then it was to the main Cathedral - say what you like about Catholics, they know how to do a good church

Then we headed off to the region of La Boca - home of the Boca Juniors

This was a very colourful area full of artists and souvenirs - which we made the most of

Finally we went to the square next to the cemetery that Eva Peron was buried - quite close to the oldest tree in Argentina - over 300 years old

We then got dropped off at the hotel so we could stash our souvenirs and went looking for lunch

Quite close to us there is a plaza full of bars and restaurants and here we had a pork shoulder baguette - the best sandwich I have ever tasted

Sure the beers helped too but it was so delicious

We then wandered around a bit picking up a few other things before heading back to the hotel to prepare for tonight’s excursion

It was a dinner and tango show we were going to and we were the first the driver picked up

Which meant that we were in the bus for over an hour whilst he picked other couples up

As we walked into the venue I recognised Janice, the Aussie woman who was travelling on her own (from the morning tour) after her husband passed away this year

She seemed pleased to see us and was even more pleased when we were seated next to her - she was very chatty and had led an interesting life

For dinner, Joss and I had empanadas, for main I had steak while Joss had chicken and for pudding I had ice cream with Joss having flan

I liked all of mine but Joss wasn’t keen on the chicken

Then the show started

The dancers were excellent and the singers had powerful voices

When the woman sang “Don’t cry for me Argentina” - or as the fucking annoying American on the bus afterwards said “the Argentinian national anthem”, it was genuinely very emotional

Then this folk music quartet came in and the bloke with the pan pipes and recorder was absolutely amazing

Then a bloke came in with suspiciously dark hair and started flailing a cape around whilst dancing

Then he rapidly played a drum

He then went one better and swung two balls on strings around at a ferocious pace so they hit the floor to the timing of the music - it was mesmeric

After he’d brought the house down the dancers came back on and were seriously impressive

That just left the hour long trip back with the American non-stop talking BS the whole journey whilst a woman at the front asked “is this Palermo?” every second minute of the journey

That journey was by far the most torturous thing we’ve had to endure for a long time

It’s now gone 1am but with no plans for the morning, hopefully we can have a lie in
